Anticipatory Set: Certain ticket outs from day nine will be read aloud and as a class we will discuss how to resolve some of the troubles students felt they would encounter.
Objective: By the end of the hour, students will hand in their completed essays that must be at least five paragraphs long containing less than three grammatical errors. By completing this essay, students will be demonstrating their skills in grammar, writing, organization, critical thinking, and reflection.
Materials: Brainstorms need to be present, essays, ticket out sheets from yesterday
Checking for Understanding: Students will be graded informally as they answer and discuss ways to ease any troubles or concerns about the essay. The final essay will be graded formally with a rubric.
Independent Practice: Students will be given almost the entire class time to finish their essays. Once they are finished they will be asked to re-read them and check for any grammatical errors. If there is time left, students will be asked to switch with a partner and see if they can catch any errors in the essays.
Closure: As the final essays get handed in students will share what they wrote about. This will wrap up the unit nicely as all the projects, assignments, stories, poems, etc will be discussed and reflected upon as a class.
